NEW DELHI: There is an increase of 8 to 10% in the wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). In states including Kerala, there is a hike from Rs 7 to Rs 34. The central government has issued an order in this regard.
The wage rate in Goa has been increased to Rs 356 after an increase of Rs 34. There is a rise of Rs 13 in Kerala. With this, it will become Rs 346. The least increase is in Uttar Pradesh. The wages would be Rs 230 after an increase of only Rs 7. UP is also one of the lowest paying states.
There is an increase of Rs 17 in Bihar. Wages have also been increased in states like Telangana and Gujarat. The revised wages will come into effect from April 1. As per the data, there are more than fourteen crore people in the employment guarantee scheme in the country. As the Lok Sabha elections are round the corner, there are discussions as to whether the increase in wages can be considered a violation of the code of conduct.
